LeBron James’ decision to join the Miami Heat in the summer of 2010 changed the landscape of the NBA.
By joining fellow stars Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, James helped create a team that would eventually win two championships and appear in four straight NBA Finals.
However, Wade admits to nervously watching “The Decision” and hoping James didn’t have a last-minute change of heart.

“I didn’t know what was going to come out. I was actually a little nervous.” @DwyaneWade says he found out that LeBron was joining the Heat just like the rest of us did.

“I didn’t know what was gonna come out,” Wade said when asked about watching James announce his decision to sign with Miami. “I was actually a little nervous. Even though going into that we all had left each other from the meeting, me, him, and Chris [Bosh], and we all talked about, ‘OK this is what we gonna do.’
“But also everybody still went back to their home, went back to their family and you don’t know what’s gonna change during that process. Miami was my city so it was easy for me to say, ‘I’m coming back to Miami.’
“But it wasn’t an easy decision for him to make. So I’m sitting there watching just like everybody else. Even though I know a little bit, I haven’t talked to him in like four or five days before that so I don’t know if something changed.”
It’s interesting to hear Wade’s retrospective on the summer of 2010. That summer was a turning point that made Miami the clear favorite in the Eastern Conference.
“Because I knew that we were about to embark on something special,” Wade said. “I didn’t know what it was going to be, but I knew it was about to be something special. I knew there wasn’t gonna be no more first-round exits for me so I was happy about it.”
First-round exits were a thing of the past for the Heat after James and Bosh arrived. Miami’s Big 3 was the dominant force in the NBA for the better part of four seasons and it all started with James’ decision to come to South Florida.
