Bam Adebayo’s Sunday afternoon was supposed to be about a trophy, but by the evening, a different moment from the Miami Heat captain’s annual youth camp had taken over NBA social media.
During a question-and-answer session with campers in Miami, Adebayo was asked to name his top five players of all time. His answer, captured on video at the camp by fan videographer, spread across NBA aggregator accounts within hours: Kobe Bryant, Steph Curry, Michael Jordan, Kevin Durant and Tim Duncan.

The omission fans noticed
A list like that leaves out plenty of legends, but only one absence drove the reaction. LeBron James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and a four-time champion, did not make Adebayo’s five.
The timing is what turned a camp answer into a talking point. Just weeks ago, the Heat were deep in the running for James before the 41-year-old chose the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency, ending Miami’s pursuit and leaving a fan base with fresh feelings about the four-time MVP.
Fan accounts wasted little time connecting the two, with versions of the clip circulating under captions wondering whether the list doubled as a message.
The honest answer is that nothing in the circulating video suggests one. Adebayo was fielding rapid-fire questions from kids at his own camp, he offered the names without elaboration in the clips making the rounds, and all-time lists built around Bryant, Jordan and Duncan reflect a preference plenty of players share.
Adebayo has also spoken glowingly about James in the past, and no reporting has connected Sunday’s answer to Miami’s free agency miss. Still, an omission is an omission, and Heat fans enjoying it after the way free agency unfolded is part of what made the clip travel.
A lighter moment on a big day
The viral list was only a footnote on a meaningful afternoon for Adebayo, who formally received the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Trophy on Sunday as the 2025-26 NBA Social Justice Champion, becoming the first player in franchise history to earn the honor. The ceremony included a taped video message from Abdul-Jabbar himself, and teammate Davion Mitchell stopped by the camp to show support.

Adebayo had plenty more to say about the state of the Heat during the session, including a pointed response to those doubting Miami’s roster heading into the season.
Between the trophy, the quotes and a viral all-time list, Adebayo delivered a full news cycle from a kids’ camp on a Sunday in August, which says something about where the Heat captain’s profile sits entering a season with expectations rising around him and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Training camps around the league open in under two months, and until then, Heat fans will happily keep replaying a five-name answer that asked a simple question and started a much louder conversation.
