Miami Heat Rumors: Caron Butler Looking To Sign With Heat

2 Min Read

While Miami Heat fans are undoubtedly interested in where LeBron James ultimately takes his talents, should he choose Miami yet again, he might have a little more help this upcoming season.

“Butler indicated during his radio interview that the Miami Heat approached him last season after he had already committed to the Oklahoma City Thunder,” Miami Herald’s Joseph Goodman writes. “Otherwise, he might have signed on with the Heat. The Heat could have certainly used him. He said he would consider signing with the Heat this summer, but everything is contingent on James, Wade and Bosh.”

With the loss of Mike Miller last season due to financial maneuvering, the backup guard/forward spot in Miami’s rotation had been a glaring one. As the Heat plan to retool, it would behoove them to seriously consider adding Butler’s 6’7”, 217-pound frame considering he provides much needed toughness as well as defense and three-point shooting.

At 34 years old, it’s no surprise his best days are behind him, but Butler can still contribute at this stage in his career, and considering he is an old friend of Dwyane Wade, it’s safe to say he’ll fit right in with the squad from a chemistry standpoint.

Last season Butler split time between the Milwaukee Bucks and Thunder, but during the Thunder’s playoff run, he averaged an unremarkable 6 points per game while shooting 32-percent in only 23 minutes of action.

Something else worth noting, Butler would return to the team that drafted him back in 2002 if he does indeed find himself in a Miami Heat uniform next season.
