Zaire Wade arrested on felony domestic violence charges

Zaire Wade, the eldest son of Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade, was arrested Sunday in Burbank, Calif., on suspicion of felony domestic violence, criminal threats and false imprisonment, law enforcement sources told NBC4 Los Angeles.

The 24-year-old was booked by the Burbank Police Department, in a report that surfaced publicly Friday.

The arrest stemmed from a call to Burbank police at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, placed after a 911 caller reported hearing a woman screaming inside a home, according to the sources. Responding officers found Wade at the residence along with a woman who had cuts on her face and body. Paramedics evaluated the woman at the scene, and she was not taken to a hospital.

After speaking with those involved, officers took Wade into custody on suspicion of three offenses: felony domestic violence, criminal threats and false imprisonment. Authorities also recovered a handgun from the home following the arrest.

An emergency protective order was issued in the case, and Wade was released later the same day after posting $50,000 bond.

An arrest, not a conviction

The charges listed reflect the basis for Wade’s booking, not formal charges filed by prosecutors. The decision on whether to file charges rests with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, which had not announced a filing decision as of publication. No public comment from Wade or his representatives had been reported at the time of writing.

Who is Zaire Wade

Zaire Wade is the oldest child of Dwyane Wade, the three-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer who spent the bulk of his career in Miami. The younger Wade was a standout at Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, Calif., and has since played professionally, including stops in the NBA G League and overseas. He is not affiliated with the Heat as a player.

This is a developing story.
