The 2019-20 NBA season likely won’t restart for quite some time due to the novel coronavirus, but Miami Heat big man Meyers Leonard knows exactly how he wants the season to resume when the time comes.
Five games and go straight into the playoffs.

“I would say that it would be fair to maybe have five games, both East and West,” Leonard began. “You know, you figure out the schedule, figure out how do you shake the eighth spot loose and figure out who that is there. Then in the East, you have five games to get players’ legs back under them and everything. Then, if it were up to me, you’d go right into the playoffs.”
Leonard went on to express that what matters most is that a champion for the 2019-20 season is ultimately named. Surely, most fans will agree with him.
If everything had gone according to plan, the Heat’s regular season would have been coming to an end in just a few days. They currently sit at the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference.
However, the coronavirus has derailed much more than just sports. Much of the country remains on lockdown as government and medical officials scramble to stall the highly infectious illness’ spread.
Leonard’s plan seems like one that many NBA players and fans would be fine with. Surely, what most people care about is that a champion is ultimately crowned for what has been a highly competitive season.
Sadly, at the moment, it seems quite possible that the entire 2019-20 season will end up being cancelled.
