Retired Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade’s time in the NBA has ended, a status that makes him eligible for the BIG3 league. Offering former players the opportunity to still play professionally in a 3-on-3 format, the expanded 12-team league will begin its third season next month.
On Sunday night, Wade took to social media to shoot down talk of him joining any of the teams, while also stating his enthusiasm for the league itself.

BIG3 was formed in 2017 and offers both former NBA stars and international players the opportunity to play a distinctly different game in retirement.
Among the many differences is the fact that the contest is played in the half court. There is also a shot clock of 14 seconds and players have the chance of scoring four points with a deep shot from 30 feet away and beyond.
Wade would most likely thrive in such an environment, but having just retired, he’s eager to pursue some new opportunities. He’s also spoken of the reality of readjusting his approach to life in general in retirement by undergoing therapy.
The 2019 edition of BIG3 gets underway with three games on June 22 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The following day, three more contests will be played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
