The Miami Heat dipped their toes in the pre-deadline trade market on Wednesday afternoon, and according to a Thursday report, they might be on the verge of diving in.

Goran Dragic is a great player and beloved member of the Heat, but this trade could be very interesting.

Ricky Rubio has proven in the past to be a great point guard when asked to move the ball around multiple scorers, and Jae Crowder could insert toughness and athleticism at the forward position.

This season, Rubio is averaging 12.9 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game. Crowder is averaging 12.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

On top of both players’ productions, the deal would help the Heat get further out of cap purgatory.

However, additional moves would be necessary to get the Heat out of the luxury tax, which increasingly seems to be a primary goal for the Miami front office.

None of the moves the Heat have made prior to this season’s deadline have moved the meter much in terms of making the Heat contenders, and this move would be no different.

What it would do, however, is give the Heat added flexibility to sign free agents in the future. Something that team president Pat Riley would love to do.
