Despite his immense talent, Miami Heat rookie Tyler Herro isn’t really in the conversation for the Rookie of the Year award.
According to Herro, a major reason why is because he missed over a month’s worth of games due to an ankle injury earlier this season.
There is no doubt that Herro is considered to be one of the most impressive rookies this season. In fact, despite the injury, Herro did receive ROTY votes in an ESPN poll.
While Memphis Grizzlies rookie Ja Morant is the frontrunner for the award at the moment, Herro certainly thinks that an extra month of play would have earned him a real shot at winning the award.
On the season, the University of Kentucky product is averaging 12.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. He’s served as a major contributor coming off the bench for a majority of the season.
While Herro winning the coveted award is likely not realistic at this point, especially because the rest of the 2019-20 regular season could very well be lost as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the future is undoubtedly bright for the streaky shooting guard.
In fact, there are already whispers that Herro will join Miami’s starting unit next season.
While he may not get the chance to win Rookie of the Year, he will surely get the chance to earn many other accolades throughout his NBA career.
