Goran Dragic Sets Record Straight, Insists He’s ‘Happy’ in Miami

Goran Dragic Miami Heat

When Goran Dragic signed with the Miami Heat in 2015, he was surely thrilled at the chance to compete alongside the likes of Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Obviously, things have changed since then, but one thing that hasn’t changed is Dragic’s contentment with the Heat.

Last week, the Slovenian point guard was interviewed by TNT’s David Aldridge. When Aldridge asked Dragic if he felt like, perhaps, this current situation with the Heat wasn’t what he had signed up for, Dragic replied by saying, “You’re right.”

Since then, reports have come out indicating that Dragic is perhaps unhappy in Miami, which is, evidently, not true.

The fact is, after the point guard had told Aldridge he was right about his assumption, he also went on to add:

“But the main thing is, I want to win games. Of course, I want to win the championship. But, how you say: you need to go one step back to go two steps forward.”

In essence, the full quote isn’t about Dragic saying he’s unhappy with what’s happened in Miami, but rather about Dragic acknowledging bumps in the road and remaining positive heading into the future.

These days it seems like the media and other outside sources are being too quick to jump to conclusions and sew discontent amongst Heat players and the franchise. The reality is, however, that Dragic understands that, though this is not where he expected the team to be, he now has a chance to be a real leader for Miami in the coming seasons and that’s something he’s looking forward to.

Sure, things have not gone as planned in Miami, but that doesn’t mean Dragic isn’t happy about his current situation.

“Sometimes your career, this is business, you cannot have every decision go the way you want it on your own. This is a team decision. Sometimes you need to do two steps back to go one step forward. I’m happy to be here. This is the team that I want to be here. But I understand this is business. I don’t have any comments about not wanting to be here,” he said. “That is nonsense.”

Look for Dragic to excel to new heights in Miami this season now that the team plans on transitioning to a faster-paced offense that will let the young, new roster additions get out and run. That’s the style of play best suited to Dragic’s game. No longer will the Heat run a slow, plodding half-court offense led by Wade or Bosh. Dragic will be the clear-cut leader on offense now and his stock is surely to rise.
