The addition of University of Kentucky guard Tyler Herro has many in the Miami Heat organization excited about his potential.
One of his new teammates, Justise Winslow, is also thrilled to see the rookie join the team and likes the edge he’s bringing along with him.

“I’m really excited for this season of Tyler, as a basketball player and as a person,” said Winslow. “But just off of what I’ve seen from his college career. You know he’s a great shooter, he can really score the ball. But he has an edge to him. He has some nastiness. He has some dogs in him. I’m gonna try to tap into that. See how much of that we can really get him to let out this year, but he could have some savage in him, and I could tell just by his demeanor. His draft suit was very Miami, so I think he’s gonna fit right in.”
At the outset, Herro has the opportunity to serve as a scoring option off the bench. Whether or not that ultimately leads to a starting role down the road remains to be seen. However, in his one year at Kentucky, the 19-year-old averaged 14.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2,5 assists per game.
With Winslow having played a good number of games at point guard in place of the injured Goran Dragic, the prospect of a future backcourt pairing between Winslow and Herro might be possible. That’s especially true given Dragic’s uncertain future beyond this year in Miami, which might even involve his being traded at some point before the trade deadline next February.
Winslow is coming off the best season of his four-career, averaging 12.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists, while also showing off his defensive skills by averaging 1.1 steals per game. That performance wiped away concerns about his ability to bounce back from past injuries.
