The fact that the Miami Heat were able to make the 2025 NBA Playoffs despite how ineffective their offensive attack was last season is impressive.

Miami ranked in the bottom 10 in the NBA in both points scored per contest and offensive rating during the 2024-25 regular season. The Heat then averaged just 95.5 points per game in the first round of the playoffs against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

It seems as if the Heat realize that their offense needs some reworking. NBA insider Zach Lowe indicated that they are doing “something dramatic” to make their offense look “very different” in the coming season.

Lowe didn’t specify as to what the Heat may be doing to alter their offense, but he did say that Miami has seemingly hit a wall with midrange jumpers and dribble handoffs.

Some NBA teams have had success building their offenses around the 3-point shot, and it may be time for the Heat to do just that. They do have some players who could help if they were to embrace a modus operandi on offense that involved letting it fly from deep early and often.

Davion Mitchell, Tyler Herro and Norman Powell all shot it from deep at a high level last season. Andrew Wiggins certainly can’t be left open. Even Miami’s big men can space the floor a little bit. Bam Adebayo has worked to add a better 3-point shot to his repertoire, and Kel’el Ware showed a willingness to shoot 3s as a rookie last season. Nikola Jovic is also a threat from deep.

However, Miami still lost probably its best shooter this offseason. The Heat dealt Duncan Robinson to the Detroit Pistons in a sign-and-trade deal, and the 31-year-old is a career 39.7 percent 3-point shooter on 7.2 attempts per game.

Whatever the big change Miami makes on the offensive end of the floor proves to be, what matters is that it will allow its offense to reach new heights. Lowe’s report gives fans of the team just one more reason to be looking forward to its season opener on Oct. 22.
