The NBA’s free agency period is nearly upon us, but before that happens the Miami Heat are searching for a way to trade for star veteran Jimmy Butler.
According to a Saturday report, the Heat are set to meet with Butler on Sunday and then will try to find a way to initiate a sign-and-trade with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Heat of course tried to trade for Butler early last season. A last-minute snag led to Butler ultimately being traded to the 76ers.
The reason why the Heat need to initiate a sign-and-trade as opposed to just waiting for Butler to become a free agent is because they do not have the cap space necessary to sign a player to a max contract.
If the Heat were able to trade for Butler, it would immediately give them the star power they have been searching for since the Big 3 era ended.
While it is likely that the Heat would have to part ways with some of their young talent, it could be well worth it to make the Heat competitors in the Eastern Conference, as well as make them potential targets for free agents next summer.
