The NBA career of Miami Heat big man Udonis Haslem is currently in its 16th season, with many previous expectations being that this campaign would be his last.
However, Haslem indicated on Thursday that he is strongly considering coming back with the Heat for the 2019-20 season.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald noted Haslem’s remarks, which indicated his continuing enthusiasm toward being a member of the Heat.

“I am leaning towards doing one more season,” Haslem told the Miami Herald on Thursday evening. “But it’s not 100 percent. For me, physically and mentally I’m still 100 percent engaged to help these guys get where they need to go. It’s just about the time. Is it time to do something different?”
Haslem also clarified earlier comments that seemed to indicate that this season would be his last:
“I never said I had decided to retire. I said I had nothing else to prove in this game. Now it’s more so being with these guys, getting my competitive, winning nature and hunger filled by investing in others, and that’s not easy at times. As long as I can have an impact on these guys, I’m comfortable being there.”
Haslem, a native of South Florida, signed with the Heat as an undrafted free agent in 2003. He’s been a part of the team’s three NBA title teams, but in recent years has served more as a clubhouse mentor, offering leadership and advice to his teammates.
This season, Haslem has only seen action in four games and is averaging 1.0 point and 1.5 rebounds per game. There’s no guarantee that the Heat will have a place for him next season, though his roster spot would only involve paying him the $2.4 veteran’s minimum. The veteran will discuss his future after the season with team CEO Nick Arison.
