Miami Heat News: Heat Release Promising Young Guard for Final Roster

In order to officialize the roster for the start of the 2018-19 NBA season, the Miami Heat have cut a promising player.

According to Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel, the Heat have released guard Briante Weber.

Weber, 25, was hoping to land a regular-season roster slot with the Heat. The journeyman began his professional basketball career after going undrafted in the 2015 NBA Draft. Since going undrafted, Weber has played for the Heat, the Heat’s G League affiliate Sioux Falls Skyforce, Memphis Grizzlies, and more.

During the preseason, the defensive stalwart put up 9.0 points, 3.0 assists and 2.6 steals in five contests with Miami. While Weber is a terrific backup guard, the Heat’s backcourt is already over capacity. With Goran Dragic, Dion Waiters, Josh Richardson, Dwyane Wade, Tyler Johnson, Wayne Ellington and Rodney McGruder, it would have been hard to find a solid spot for Weber in the rotation.

Although it’s an understandable situation, the release wasn’t easy for the youngster, who went through extreme lengths to rejoin the team. The 6-foot-2 point guard was sure not to be quiet on social media.

Heat Nation hopes the hardworking guard gets another chance in the NBA.
