Mario Chalmers Undergoes Surgery On Right Knee

The Miami Heat announced on Friday afternoon that Mario Chalmers underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to repair an inflamed plica.

Of all of the Heat’s players during the 2014-15 season, Chalmers was the healthiest—he appeared in 80 games, which was the most for any individual player on the roster. The good news is that ‘Rio will be healthy in time for training camp. He isn’t expected to miss any time and will begin rehab soon.

The Heat’s bench was one of the worst in the league, but Chalmers was the only one who gave Miami stability outside of the starting lineup. He averaged 10.2 points per game and was the team’s starting point guard at one point, before the franchise acquired Goran Dragic at the trade deadline last February. It was the highest single-season PPG average of Chalmers’ seven-year NBA career.

The veteran point guard has one year left on his contract and is due $4.3 million for the 2015-16 season.
