The Miami Heat may not have any space under the NBA’s salary cap to sign another major contributor, but they’re turning to other methods to fill out their 2019-20 roster.
The Heat have signed three players forwards Kyle Alexander and Chris Silva and guard Jeremiah Martin to Exhibit 10 deals. Such deals do not count against the salary cap and can later be converted to two-way contracts.
The team only has two two-way contract spots to offer these three prospects.
Alexander stands 6-foot-11 and weighs 200 pounds. In four seasons with the University of Tennessee, he established himself as a high-level rim protector. He averaged 1.7 blocks per game as a senior and finished his time there with 185 rejections, which is second in school history. Yet he went undrafted in this June’s NBA draft.
Silva is 6-foot-9 and 234 pounds and played for the University of South Carolina. In three seasons with the Gamecocks, he showed the ability to be a rim protector by averaging 1.2 blocks per game, and 1.4 rejections in each of his last two seasons.
He also expanded his repertoire in his junior season by hitting 41.7 percent of his 3-point attempts in the 2017-18 season, his last at the school.
Martin, a 6-foot-3 guard, put up 19.7 points and 4.4 assists as a senior with the University of Memphis. Like Alexander and Silva, he was undrafted.
