Although nothing is imminent, the Miami Heat reportedly continue to “check in on bigs with NBA experience,” according to a report.

The peak of the NBA offseason might’ve come and gone already, but there’s still time for the Heat to touch up their roster.

“The Heat continue to check in on bigs with NBA experience,” wrote Ethan J. Skolnick of Five Reasons Sports via Discord. “Nothing imminent however.”

Miami, to its credit, hasn’t sat on its hands this offseason. The team’s big move came when it struck a trade to acquire veteran guard Norman Powell without giving up too much in return.

Although the Heat remain outside of the championship conversation right now, their deal for Powell should make them more interesting in the new season. A move for a big man to add some frontcourt depth would also help the cause.

The Heat can roll with big men Bam Adebayo and Kel’el Ware this coming season as their starting frontcourt. Adebayo, a three-time All-Star and five-time All-Defense selection, has become one of the top bigs in the game, while Ware, who just earned an All-Rookie nod, appears to have a bright future. Some extra support behind them would help to solidify that part of the roster.

There are still some question marks for Miami as the offseason rolls on. Among them is whether veteran guard Terry Rozier will still be with the team when the new campaign begins. The Heat have made efforts to move him this offseason.

Barring a blockbuster trade, there is likely too much work to be done for Miami to become a title contender in the immediate future, but incremental improvements are certainly worth something. For now, the Heat can hope to be more competitive this coming season after their 2024-25 campaign turned into something of a disaster.

Miami finished the season with a losing record before sneaking into the playoffs by virtue of the play-in tournament. In the playoffs, the Heat were embarrassed, as they were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the most lopsided series in NBA history.

Hopefully, there are brighter days ahead for Miami. The franchise must know that it has a lot of work to do.
