The Miami Heat currently find themselves in a position where trying to improve their roster for the 2019-20 season is handicapped by the high salaries being paid to players performing below expectations.
A new report indicates that to try and alleviate that problem, they’ll continue to try and trade the players in question.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald cited one NBA official, who indicated that two Heat players with more than one year left on their present deals fit that category:

“One official said it was clear talking to the Heat that Miami will continue efforts to deal some of its more expensive players with multiple years left on their contracts (James Johnson, Dion Waiters remain available).”
In addition, Jackson pointed out two other Heat players who will most likely be on the trading block:
“The expiring contracts of Hassan Whiteside and Goran Dragic instantly will become trade chips as soon as they formally opt in for next season, a decision that’s expected.”
The combined salaries of those four players comes to just under $75 million, an investment that hasn’t really panned out. If the Heat were able to trade those four players, it would allow them to have more flexibility during the free-agency period that begins in July.
However, there has apparently been little to no interest from other teams, in part because of the financial considerations involved. How the Heat go about sweetening the deal in the weeks ahead will help determine whether or not they’ll be able to unload those players.
