The Miami Heat are reportedly willing to take a chance on Chicago Bulls forward Carmelo Anthony, according to Kelly Iko of The Athletic.

“The LeBron James ties are obvious, but Los Angeles isn’t the only team willing to take a chance on the aging Melo,” wrote Iko. “Miami is still an option, as is Detroit.”
Anthony was acquired by the Bulls via trade on Tuesday from the Houston Rockets. However, the 10-time All-Star will not play a game for the Bulls as they plan to either trade or release him prior to the Feb. 7 trade deadline, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
This season, Anthony has averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game while shooting 32.8 percent from three.
The Syracuse University product hasn’t appeared in a game since Nov. 8, when he was still on the Rockets’ roster.
The idea of Anthony to Miami doesn’t seem to make that much sense. The Heat already have 13 different players averaging at least 15 minutes per game in what is an extremely crowded rotation.
Minutes would be hard to come by for Anthony and it’s highly unlikely he would sign with a non-contending team where he wouldn’t get guaranteed minutes. At this point in his career, it seems more likely that he would go to a team with a better chance at winning a championship.
For his career, the 34-year-old is averaging 24.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
He was drafted third overall in the 2003 NBA Draft, behind James, and in front of former Heat forward Chris Bosh and current Heat guard Dwyane Wade.
Time will tell which team ends up taking a chance of Anthony and it will be interesting to see if that team winds up being the Heat.
