Count the Utah Jazz as one of the teams that are interested in Mario Chalmers.

According to Fox Sports, the Jazz could be a likely trade destination for the Miami Heat point guard. The Jazz’s starting point guard from last season, Dante Exum, suffered a tear of his ACL while playing for the Australian national team earlier this month.

Which means the Jazz don’t have any serviceable options at point guard for the upcoming season. Chalmers is about to enter the last year of his contract worth $4.3 million.

Over the last month, the Heat have traded/waived key players from last season’s team for very little in return, such as Shabazz Napier, Henry Walker and Zoran Dragic. It has been made clear that Miami is willing to trim as much payroll as possible in an effort to minimize tax penalties for being over the luxury tax line.

While Chalmers isn’t one of the better point guards in the league, he has championship experience, considering he’s played in four NBA Finals and won two of them as a starter. Considering the Jazz are a potential playoff team for the upcoming season, Utah’s best option to run their offense is probably Chalmers at the current moment.

It remains to be seen how this situation develops, and if it gets to a serious point.

Having said that, if Utah truly covets the services of the veteran point guard, it’s safe to assume he can easily be acquired for very little in return considering the Heat’s salary cap situation.
