Miami Heat Rumors: Heat Possibly Interested in Forward Carlos Boozer

Heat Possibly Interested in Forward Carlos Boozer

While the Miami Heat already have 15 players on the roster, they may not be done adding players just yet.

Free agent forward Carlos Boozer remains on the market and is still a possibility for the Heat, according to Ira Winderman of The Sun Sentinel.

However, the addition of Boozer remains a big “if” due to the fact that the team is already loaded on the frontline with players such as Josh McRoberts, Amar’e Stoudemire, Udonis Haslem and Chris Andersen as backups. Winderman states that Boozer would only be a fit if the Heat are able to trade away either Andersen or McRoberts for luxury tax purposes:

“Now, if you’re talking the minimum, then I could see possible Heat interest if the power rotation (Chris Andersen, Josh McRoberts) is thinned out in the name of luxury-tax savings. The given in the equation is Boozer’s longstanding desire to spend his winters in South Florida.”

There hasn’t been much reported interest from other teams around the league in the 13-year veteran. Though Boozer isn’t the All-Star he was from nearly a decade ago, he can still contribute in limited minutes. As a Los Angeles Laker last season, Boozer averaged 11.8 points and 6.8 rebounds on 49.9 percent shooting in roughly 24 minutes per game. If the Heat are able to sign the 6’9″ forward to the veteran’s minimum, it would be an absolute bargain deal.

Andersen is currently on the trade block, so if “Birdman” is indeed traded by the Heat, it would then make the signing of Boozer a realistic possibility.
