The Miami Heat are not done in free agency just yet.
Jared Zwerling of Bleacher Report has reported that free agent forward Amar’e Stoudemire will meet with Pat Riley on Thursday, and that he is “strongly considering” playing for the Heat.
Miami is not the only team interested in the 13-year veteran as the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns have also shown an interest in signing the 32-year-old forward.
While Stoudemire is not the high-scoring All-Star he was earlier on in his career, he has shown the willingness and ability to contribute off of the bench. While splitting the 2014-15 season with the Mavericks and the New York Knicks, Stoudemire averaged 11.5 points and 21.1 minutes per game in 59 appearances and 15 games started.
He still remains an effective player offensively, but shows glaring weaknesses on the defensive end. According to Basketball-Reference.com, the Mavericks allowed six more points per 100 possessions with Stoudemire on the floor.
However, with the Heat limited with what they can spend and the free agency market already as thin as it is, Miami would love to add a six-time All-Star to their 2015-16 roster.
