Duncan Robinson’s progression is an overlooked positive for the Miami Heat this season.
Robinson, who is playing on a two-way contract, has the potential to become an NBA sharpshooter. As a result, the 24-year-old is studying Klay Thompson’s game.

“Watching a guy like Klay Thompson [Sunday in the Golden State game], how he gets his shot off, how he moves on the floor, how he impacts the game on both ends,” Robinson said. “That’s a huge goal of mine to be impactful player.
“If I am run off the line, [driving] is something I’ve been really focusing on. I try to be a good passer. If I can’t get in paint and finish, just get in the paint for sprays and get other guys looks.”
For any aspiring 3-point threat, Thompson is an excellent player to try and emulate. The way he moves without the ball and his quick release have made him one of the best shooters in the league.
Robinson is having success in the G League. In 30 games for the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Robinson is shooting 48.3 percent on 9.5 3-point attempts per game. He’s leading the G League with 4.6 3-point makes per game.
The University of Michigan product has scant experience with the Heat this season, but could be a rotational player in the near future. The 3-point shot has never been more important than it is today and Robinson could be the next great shooter in Miami if he continues on his current progression.
