15 Things You Didn’t Know About Chris Bosh

We all know about Chris Bosh on the court, whether it be his photobombing tactics or his tendency to knock down big three-point buckets, but how much do we really know about Bosh off the court? Let’s face it, CB takes a lot of flack for his nice guy demeanor and a frame that has earned him the outlandish nickname of “Boshtrich.”

However, what people fail to see is the cool, cultured, cerebral guy underneath. I mean who else in the NBA likes Jazz and computer coding? I digress. Here are 15 things you didn’t know about our beloved power forward/center Chris Bosh:

1. His first car was a Chevy Avalanche.

Chris wasn’t the owner of just any ordinary Avalanche. His first car was in the neighborhood of $50,000, and although it wasn’t the flashiest of cars for someone whose first NBA contract was worth $9.3 million, he stated that he “always told himself that’s what he wanted to buy. So that’s what he bought.”

2. He’s a huge Harry Potter fan.

In an article by Ocean Drive, Bosh was asked what the 10 things were that he couldn’t live without, and Harry Potter books was one of them. The novels are authored by J.K. Rowling and each film based upon the book is individually among the 50 highest-grossing films in inflation unadjusted dollars.

3. He’s the only current NBA player to actively hold an editor position at a magazine.

That’s right. Chris Bosh is currently the “editor at large” for the popular magazine, Ocean Drive, a Miami lifestyle magazine. And here you were thinking all he could do was play basketball.

4. In high school, he was in a computer graphics club called “Wizkids.”

Something tells me that CB would have been successful in life, regardless of whether he went on to play basketball professionally or not. This guys is just too talented.

5. He won a cybersquatting law suit in 2009, freeing the domain names of 800 athletes.

A man by the name of Luis Zavala bought the domain names of over 800 athletes and celebrities with the intention of reselling them at a marked up price, which is a violation of federal law. When Chris successfully sued Zavala, all of the domains were relinquished and transferred over to Bosh, who then went out of his way to transfer the domains to their rightful owners. NBA players Amar’e Stoudemire, Steve Nash, and Jason Kidd were among those whose domain names were hijacked.

6. He led Team USA in rebounding in 2008.

In the team’s 2008 Olympic basketball campaign that featured big name players like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade, and Carmelo Anthony, Bosh led the entire team in rebounding with 6.1 rebounds per game. The next highest on the list was Dwight Howard with 5.8 rebounds per game.

7. He played the role of a ringer on an episode of the comedy show Parks and Recreation.

I personally got to see this episode and found Chris Bosh’s scene to be absolutely hilarious. If you don’t believe me, take a look at this clip of CB on the show.

8. He doesn’t hang out often with teammate Dwyane Wade off the court.

When speaking of the relationship that Bosh has with his teammates off the court he said, “We’re teammates, that’s great. But people think I’m supposed to act a certain way or walk hand-in-hand together everywhere. We come together, we do our job, we have a great time when we’re around each other, but I might just be sitting right here and they might be over there.”

9. In 2009, he released a movie about himself titled “First Ink.”

The movie didn’t make it to theaters, but it’s on DVD and features comedic digital shorts and a documentary about CB. The documentary portion follows Bosh around during his time off in the summer before his final season on contract with the Toronto Raptors.

10. The Raptors drafted Bosh ahead of Nick Collison because Bosh beat him in a game of 1-on-1.

Crazy right? According to Complex.com, the only reason the Toronto Raptors drafted Bosh ahead of Collison was because Bosh beat the Collison in a game of one-on-one during the team’s pre-draft workout. Bosh was drafted 4th overall in the draft while Collison wound up being drafted 12th by the Seattle Supersonics. Who knows if the “Big Three” era would have existed had Collison been the one to beat Bosh.

11. Bosh wanted to become a graphic artist before a professional basketball player.

Surprisingly, CB is actually a very talented graphic artist. He actually interacts currently with the Miami community through art.

12. CB’s favorite basketball player growing up was Kevin Garnett.

Bosh modeled his game after Garnett growing up, and with a mid-range jump shot and an array of post moves, I believe him. As a matter of fact, his high school nickname growing up was “KG.”

13. He was robbed of nearly $500,00 worth of jewelry, cash, and purses while he was out celebrating his birthday.

The Miami heat star was out celebrating his birthday at a nightclub when a thief ransacked a walk-in closet in his Miami home. Two of Bosh’s rings worth $4,000, 12 watches worth well over $300,000, $20,000 in cash, and several purses totaling $155,000 were taken. The scariest part? His two kids and babysitters were home at the time but didn’t hear any commotion.

[xyz-ihs snippet=”Responsive-Ad”]

14. His wife used to date rapper Lil Wayne.

Adrienne Bosh used to go by the hip-hop name “Short Stack” and allegedly had a fling with Lil Wayne during this time. Lil Wayne cut off all ties with her when she allegedly faked cancer in an attempt to con Wayne out of money. Ouch.

15. He owns the most expensive home out of all active NBA players.

Priced at a ridiculous $12,333,000, Bosh is living quite lavishly in his Miami mansion as he has a home that is $3 million more than Kobe Bryant’s estate and over $3 million more than the Wade residence.
